One could argue that marketing is designed to make us dissatisfied and unhappy with what we have. They tell us, this shiny new car, appliance, boat, phone, house, etc. is better than what we have and we will be happier, thinner, more fashionable, more successful, and better looking if we buy what they are selling.

The Apostle wrote in Colossians 3:15 “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”

Self-centeredness and dissatisfaction breed greed and covetousness. Paul says the key to the peace of Christ in our hearts is gratitude. An attitude of gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, and a stranger into a friend.

Johnson Oatman, Jr. wrote more than 5,000 gospel songs. One of his most familiar hymns is, “Count Your Blessings”. You may know the song well. I especially like the third verse:

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold.
Count your many blessings; money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high

I hope you will join us (in person or via the internet) this Sunday. Our guest worship leader will be Dan Fox. He is gifted and well experienced. I have known him many years and have often been blessed by his ministry. I am sure you will enjoy him.
